What pleating would you like?

  • Military - Stripes

  • Military - Block Colour

  • To Pattern/Sett

The pleating can completely change the look of the kilt depending on your choice… and it can show a lovely contrast when the pleat swings.

Military pleating - Stripes, so that the same vertical line is centered on each pleat

Military pleating - Block Colour, so that the same colour is across the back

Pleated to Pattern/Sett, so that the tartan pattern is preserved in the pleating

Production Information

  • Kilt will be produced to Scottish Qualifications Authority Standard, with the mentoring of a retired kiltmaker with 40+ years’ experience.

  • Depending on availability, the item being made may take 4-8 weeks to complete. 

  • A measure form will be provided with instructions on how to take measurements.

  • Garments will be made with extra fabric enclosed for growth and alteration purposes and hem on kilts if possible, for dancing, children's and some band kilts.

  • The kilt front and under apron may have darts and an hour glass shape dependent on where kilt is warn for dancing kilts. 

  • Kilt will be knife pleated.

  • Upfront deposit required for cloth order, remainder required on completion of order before delivery.

  • If cloth is over $400 NZD it may incur 15% customs duty (usually when coming from UK).

  • Double width kilt fabric will require a join so one pleat may be larger than the others.

  • Thread colour will be as matching as possible.

  • Kilt waistband will be matching on front apron and excess added at apron ends for future alterations.

  • 3 Buckles and Straps on kilts – fabric for chaps will be as matching as possible.

  • Highland dancing jackets and waistcoats - samples will be sent to be fitted for best fit - will be made slightly larger than given measurements for growth purposes.

  • Fabric and accessories for dancing outfits can be supplied and made in your area if you have someone available.

  • Kilts will have two fringe down apron edge unless otherwise stated.
